BU 92-61 [printed report page 10] [Continued from page 139] The informant said GEORGE HARDY had a large gambling establishment in Niagara Falls and, when living, controlled the wire service there. The informant alleged that the “mob” later obtained control of the wire service but could not explain how. He believed the organization was powerful and had political connections. The informant described STEVE MAGADDINO as a leading figure in Niagara Falls organized crime who stayed in the background. He admitted he had no direct information tying Magaddino to gambling or other criminal activity, had never seen him in a gambling establishment, and believed others operated for him. On May 18, 1951, T-4 said a man operating a large dice game in Niagara Falls [NAME AND LOCATION REDACTED] was warned to close it by the MAGADDINOS. The informant alleged that after the man refused, his gambling establishment was raided and robbed of approximately $10,000. The alleged robbery was not reported to police, although it received some local newspaper publicity. The informant said the game later reopened with an apparent Magaddino interest. He believed the Magaddinos exercised influence over gamblers while operating through “front men,” including SAMUEL RANGATORE. [Significant passages and informant identities are redacted. Claims are attributed to the FBI's informants, not established facts.]
