BU 92-61 [printed report page 6] [Continuation of criminal-record discussion.] A record search identified BARTOLO FONTANA, who was on parole and committed suicide on February 8, 1956, as the man who murdered CAMILLO CAIZZO at Avon, New Jersey, in 1921. [Beginning of paragraph and portions of names partly obscured; verify against scan.] On February 3, 1958, the records of the Philadelphia Police Department were checked, and no record could be located for the subject under his true name or any aliases. By letter dated February 15, 1940, the United States Treasury Department, Bureau of Customs, New York, New York, advised the FBI office in New York City that its Treasury representative in Milan, Italy, had reported that a Grand Council of the Sicilian underworld gang in the United States was composed of nine individuals. According to the letter, STEFANO MAGARDINO of Niagara Falls, New York, was listed as a member. The nine men allegedly directed the organization's affairs in the United States and Europe. On December 27, 1957, [REDACTED], a Customs agent in New York City, advised that [REDACTED] files contained no additional information about “MAGARDINO.” The source records in Milan reportedly had been destroyed during [REDACTED], and the original source of the allegation could not be traced. INS records at Buffalo reflect a 1934 investigation of PETER JOSEPH MAGADDINO, cousin of the subject, concerning whether he had entered the United States legally. [Sentence continues on next page.
