BU 92-61 On March 10, 1958, [REDACTED], Niagara Falls, New York, furnished the following information to SA [REDACTED]: He has known the subject by reputation for a number of years and on one occasion the subject unwittingly did him a personal favor. He explained that in 1945, he had just been released from the United States Army and he and his wife were on vacation in Havana, Cuba, where they had a very modest room in the Hotel Nationale. In Havana, on the second day of their stay at the hotel, the hotel authorities requested that he and his wife move to another room and the room they were moved to in the hotel was a very expensive suite on the first floor of the hotel. [REDACTED] stated he explained to the hotel authorities that they could not afford to pay for a suite of that type but hotel authorities told him it would cost him no more than his former room had cost him at the hotel. [REDACTED] stated he then questioned hotel authorities as to who was responsible for his move from the modest room to the expensive suite and he was told it had been noted he was from Niagara Falls, New York. The hotel authorities then asked him if he knew STEVE MAGADDINO and he replied that he did know MAGADDINO casually. [REDACTED] stated this concluded his interview with hotel authorities but he made a point of determining who was responsible for the movement at the hotel and whose hotel suite he was occupying. He said he was able to ascertain the suite was the one ordinarily occupied by LUCKY LUCIANO, the well-known hoodlum who had been deported from the United States to Italy. [REDACTED] added he did not meet LUCIANO during his stay in Cuba. He also advised he has had little or no connection with the subject since 1945 and even prior to that time had very little contact with the subject although he admitted knowing him by reputation. On September [DAY UNCLEAR], 1957, a telephone call was made from New York City telephone [REDACTED] to "PETE" at Niagara Falls, New York, telephone [NUMBER PARTLY OBSCURED]. The New York City telephone number is listed to [REDACTED] JOSEPH BONANNO, Top Hoodlum of the Phoenix Office and formerly from New York City. The Niagara Falls telephone number is listed to PETER J. MAGADDINO, 2494 Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, New York, who is the subject's cousin. - 10 -
