He also pointed out that due to his lack of contact with the informant over the past several years, he is not in a position to evaluate the informant or the above information furnished by him. He further pointed out that he did not solicit the above information from the informant and the informant made the above remarks to him in casual conversation.
T-14, who has furnished reliable information in the past, [REDACTED] the Montana World Travel Service, Inc., 307 Niagara Street, Buffalo, New York. The 1957 Buffalo, New York city directory lists 367 Niagara Street as being occupied by the Jolly Travel Service, Inc., and JOHN C. MONTANA, top hoodlum of the Buffalo Office.
On January 13, 1958, the records of the Retail Merchants Credit Bureau, Buffalo, New York, were checked by SA [REDACTED] to obtain therefrom any information pertaining to [REDACTED]. This check met with negative results.
On December 18, 1957, T-11, who is believed to be [REDACTED], furnished the following information to SA [REDACTED]:
From time to time he has an occasion to come into close contact with the Italian element in Niagara Falls, New York. [REDACTED] related that this contact is due exclusively to the fact [REDACTED].
The informant stated [REDACTED] among the Italian element that the subject is the "king pin of the Mafia" in Niagara Falls, New York. He stated that the subject is known among this element as "DON STEFANO." He stated that his title "DON" is one that apparently signifies some type of prestige. He further advised that in relation to the subject, it appears to be general knowledge among certain Italians that if any Italian is approached in Niagara Falls for any type of shakedown and he is connected with the right circles all he has to do is contact the subject. Informant stated that he has heard that individuals who make these calls to the subject no longer hear from the persons attempting to shake them down.
